Listed below are some of the terms used in Fashion Trip. These terms are listed alphabetically, so all you need to do is scroll down the list and find the word you need explained. To skip directly to words beginning with a particular letter, click that letter in the list across the top of the definitions. For example, to see words beginning with I, click the letter I in the list below.
If a word is highlighted and underlined it is a link, and you can point and click it for more information (to indicate a link, your cursor shape changes).

Address Book |
A Fashion Trip feature that lets you communicate to other Fashion Trip users through the Internet. The Address Book contains a list of names and e-mail addresses, displays who's online, lets you connect for a text or voice chat with another user, and lets you control who can communicate with you. back |
A button that returns you to the last window, page, or screen that you visited. |
body type |
Information in Your Profile that tells Fashion Trip stores what styles of clothing to recommend. To select one of the body types, point to the mannequin that most closely resembles your body and click. You will see a red box around the mannequin to let you know that you've selected it. To update your profile, click Enter. |
button |
Buttons are links to other places. When you point your mouse at a button and click, Fashion Trip displays the information you've requested (like Help) or takes you to the feature named on the button. |
check box |
Check boxes are used to enable or disable one or more features or options from a set. When an option is selected, an x or check mark appears in the box. See also option button. |
click |
To press and release the mouse button once without moving the mouse. Clicking is usually performed to select or clear an item or to activate a program or program feature. |
closet |
The window at the bottom of the Dressing Room screen. It contains your selections from shopping in the Mall, Designer Picks, and Fashion Finder. |
content |
New outfits, new videos, new magazine articles, and so on. |
cursor |
A special on-screen indicator (the arrow or other on-screen image) that moves with movements of the mouse. |
desktop |
The on-screen work area that uses icons and menus to simulate the top of a desk, as in Microsoft Windows. |
dialog box |
A special window displayed by Fashion Trip to get information from you. For example, the Address Book appears in a dialog box, as does Help. |
disk |
A device in your PC that contains one or more inflexible platters coated with material in which data can be recorded magnetically, together with their read/write heads, the head-positioning mechanism, and the spindle motor in a sealed case that protects against outside contaminants. The protected environment allows the head to fly 10 to 25 millionths of an inch above the surface of a platter rotating typically at 3600 to 7200 rpm (yikes!); therefore, much more data can be stored and accessed much more quickly than on a floppy disk. Most hard disks contain from two to eight platters. Also called hard disk drive. |
double-click |
Press and release the mouse button twice (rapidly) without moving the mouse. |
drag-and-drop |
The way to select and move items in Fashion Trip. To make a selection, point your cursor at the item and click the left mouse button. Keep holding the button down and drag the item (slide the mouse). Release the mouse button and you release (drop) the item. |

An electronic text message that you send over a communications network (like the Internet), usually between computers or terminals. |
field |
A space or box in an on-screen form where you can enter information, like your name. |

Information about what you see on your screen in Fashion Trip. Fashion Trip offers both online and offline Help topics. |
Internet |
You mean you don't know? The Internet is a worldwide network of computers that talk to one another using the Internet protocols (standard procedures). |
Internet phone |
A Fashion Trip feature that lets you talk with a friend and shop together. |
item |
Any of the merchandise displayed in Fashion Trip. For example: sweaters, jackets, pants, blouses, shoes, makeup, bags... |
link |
(short for hyperlink or hot link) A connection between a word, picture, or phrase and another help topic. Links that are words or phrases are a different color than normal text, and they are underlined. To indicate that you are over a link, your cursor may change shape (say, from an arrow to a hand), or the word or picture may light up or change color. For example, the topic How do I work this? contains references to a number of other features within Fashion Trip. These references are links to other Help topics. To activate a link, point the cursor over the link and click. To return to the original topic, click Back. |
log in |
To enter Fashion Trip. "Log in" is a computer term that means to identify yourself to a computer after connecting to it over a communications line. During the Login procedure, the computer requests your name and e-mail address. |
logo |
An image or drawing that represents a designer. |
The device on which images generated by the computer's video adapter are displayed (in other words, that thing that looks like a TV—your computer screen). The term monitor usually refers to a video display and its housing. |

A button that allows you to access a store's Web site to purchase the item. The arrow at the bottom of this button indicates which item you are selecting. |
navigation arrow |
In the Standard Mall and all stores, the arrow that points the way toward items and shows you valid movement options. The navigation arrow looks like this: |

option button |
A selection button on the Customize screen. Select the option button to the left of your choice to set the option. To clear an option button, select (click) it. |

A button that prints the current screen. To set up your printer, see the Microsoft® Windows 95® or Windows 98® Help. |
quit |
A button on the Login and Lobby screens that lets you exit Fashion Trip. To exit, click the quit button. The Credits appear and your Fashion Trip session ends.

remove |
A button in the Dressing Room that lets you clean up the closet at the bottom of your screen. Click and drag outfits you don't want to the remove button, and they'll disappear from your closet. You can repeat the process until you have removed all the unwanted items. If you remove an item that you wanted to try on, just click the Back button and you'll return to Designer Picks. You can select the item again and drag and drop it to your Dressing Room. |
scroll |
Move lines of text or images in a window in order to view a particular portion of a document or list of images. Scrolling is done with a scroll bar or scroll arrows, as shown here:

select |
To highlight an image or text in order to move, remove, or otherwise act on it. Usually, to select an image or text, you point the cursor at it and click the left mouse button. |
selectable item |
An item is selectable when you can drag-and-drop it to your Dressing Room. In the Mall stores, Fashion Trip indicates that an item is selectable by changing your cursor shape to a hand. To view details about a selectable item, double-click the item and go to the Property Page. |
Showcase Mall |
A 3D, virtual reality view of the Mall. See also Standard Mall. You navigate through this mall by clicking and dragging the mouse. This mall contains the same stores and merchandise as the Standard Mall, except the way you move around the mall is different. |
Standard Mall |
A 2D Mall. This mall contains the same stores and merchandise as the Showcase Mall, except the way you move around the mall is different. In this mall, you move around by clicking on a navigational arrow. Fashion Trip operates on many different computers and these have different capacities. If your computer does not have hardware acceleration, you see the Standard Mall. If your computer has hardware acceleration, you can see the Showcase Mall. |
tab |
The black labels to the right of the display window in Expert Advice, Shoes, accessories, beauty, Fashion Finder and the Dressing Room. Tabs let you choose what kind of information to display in these Fashion Trip features. In the Fashion Trip Help, tabs are the labeled options used to select the Contents, Index, or Search feature. To select a tab, point the cursor at your choice and click. The tab moves to the right to indicate that you have selected it. Easy as pie! |

"Talking" online with a friend through the Internet phone. Sort of like instant e-mail. |
